Our verdict

The cheapest way into a 2K battery video doorbell from a big brand, but you will want a Ring plan to keep any recordings.

Best for: A low upfront price, if you are happy to pay for recordings.

No wiring needed (battery)Rings your existing chime (check)Recordings without a subscription5 GHz Wi-FiRenter-friendly (check)

Runs on its built-in battery, recharged with USB-C, so no wiring is needed. It can be trickle-charged from existing doorbell wiring (8–24 V AC, 40 VA max) or a Ring solar accessory; your existing mechanical or digital chime only rings when it is wired in. Otherwise alerts go to your phone, or to a Ring Chime sold separately (Ring sells a bundle with Chime 3rd Gen for £99.99). Ring recommends at least 10 Mbps upload speed for 2K video.
