Home Security

Home Security for UK homes

Video doorbells and security cameras let you see what is happening at home from your phone. The real differences are power (battery, plug-in or existing wiring), where the device can go, and what you pay each year to keep recordings — which we show on every product page.

Common questions

Do I need a subscription for a video doorbell?

It depends on the brand. Ring and Google Nest doorbells show live video and send alerts for free, but saving and replaying recordings needs a paid plan (Ring from £4.99 a month, Google Home Premium from £8 a month, prices checked 5 November 2026). The eufy E340 stores recordings on built-in storage with no monthly fee. We show the yearly cost on every product page.

Will my existing doorbell chime still ring?

Only if you wire the video doorbell to your existing doorbell wiring and transformer (usually 8–24 V AC). On battery alone, most models alert your phone or a separate plug-in chime or smart speaker instead.

Can I fit one if I rent?

Battery models can be fitted without touching any wiring, and some brands sell no-drill mounts. You still need your landlord's permission to drill or change the door frame, and you should check your tenancy agreement.
