Our verdict

Ring's step-up battery doorbell: a removable battery pack, better low-light colour and IP55 weather rating, at almost twice the price of the standard model.

Best for: Battery doorbells where you want to swap the battery instead of taking the doorbell down.

Powered by a removable Quick Release Battery Pack (recharged by Micro-USB), so you can take the battery inside to charge while the doorbell stays on the wall. It can also be wired to an 8–24 V AC doorbell transformer (40 VA max) for trickle charging and to ring an existing chime. A corner kit is included for awkward door frames.

Installation: what UK buyers need to know

Powered by a removable Quick Release Battery Pack (recharged by Micro-USB), so you can take the battery inside to charge while the doorbell stays on the wall. It can also be wired to an 8–24 V AC doorbell transformer (40 VA max) for trickle charging and to ring an existing chime. A corner kit is included for awkward door frames. If the installation needs new mains wiring or a new transformer, use a qualified electrician.
